This study aims to analyze the utilization of Kahoot as a digital learning tool to
measure students’ level of understanding in English language learning among
eighth-grade students of SMPK Citra Bangsa Kupang. This research is motivated
by the growing integration of technology in education, which encourages teachers
to apply interactive learning media such as Kahoot to enhance students’
engagement and assess their comprehension effectively. Kahoot is recognized as
an innovative platform for formative assessment, allowing teachers to evaluate
students’ understanding in a fun, interactive, and real-time manner. This study
employs a descriptive qualitative method with a case study approach. The data
are collected through classroom observations, interviews with English teachers
and students, and documentation of learning activities involving Kahoot. The
collected data are analyzed to describe how Kahoot is utilized, students’
perceptions toward its use, and its effectiveness in assessing students’
comprehension of English materials.
The results of the study show that Kahoot is effectively used to measure students’
understanding, particularly in vocabulary and grammar lessons. Students are
more motivated, active, and enthusiastic during the learning process, while
teachers can easily identify students’ learning progress and difficulties based on
the quiz results. However, several challenges are encountered, such as unstable
internet connection and students’ limited familiarity with the application. To
overcome these problems, teachers are advised to provide brief training before
using Kahoot and to ensure proper technical preparation. Based on these
findings, it can be concluded that the utilization of Kahoot has a positive impact
on students’ engagement and understanding in English language learning when
implemented with adequate support and planning.
